The Adirondack Brass in concert with the Canadian Brass, 11/1999
History of the Quintet
Adirondack Brass is a five member ensemble formed in 1994. Its members are drawn from the teaching and performing community, and each has substantial experience in various musical organizations. Since its founding, Adirondack Brass has played for several events in Northern New York and southern Quebec, and its annual performance calendar includes Artist-in-Residence appearances in schools, formal recitals, and musical support for weddings, church services, and the like. In August 1996, the group played for the over 80,000 attendees of the "Clifford Ball" concert given by the contemporary music group Phish. In March 1999, the quintet recorded music used in the Public Broadcasting Service documentary "The Final Invasion" depicting the Battle of Plattsburgh. November 1999 was a busy time for the Brass, as they appeared in a live Vermont Public Radio broadcast, and made an appearance with the world renowned Canadian Brass. Repertoire chosen by the quintet includes music written specifically for brass quintet, arrangements and transcriptions of music originally written for other media, and selections from most of the major stylistic periods in music. Individual concert programs are selected for the specific audience, reflecting the site, the age, and background of the audience, and the nature of the concert.
